As part of Secret Sessions Queen Week Giant Steps covered ’39 from the Album Night at the Opera. The track is originally sung by Brian May and was performed by George Michael at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in 1992.

NOT ABOUT WW II as incorrectly referenced by the performer.Sorry, sound pedantic, but so wrong too.He a young talented lad, just not researched properly.
Its about time travel. Randomly ’39 any year, just tells the story of a space traveller leaving earth, travels at the speed of light where his perception of time is slower than that of earths due to the Einstein stuff, so when he returns to earth, a year to him has passed, but many more years have passed to the people remaining on earth. Good effort thogh, just maybe try to get the background right ? :-)

Brian May wrote this song. Great song by Dr. Brian “Astrophysicist” May.

Hey, nice cover. FWIW, the song isn’t about WWII, it’s actually about the so called “twin paradox” of Einstein’s theory of special relativity (google this to find out what it is). Blew my mind when I found this out. I was a big fan of Queen, and a PhD physics student at the time, and that these guys could be stadium rockers, and combine lyrics relating to theoretical physics was almost too much! Still stuns me.
